The Paramedic Technician program is a flexible program where students learn to manage emergency patient care and transportation as well as how to function as part of a comprehensive emergency management system response team under medical oversight. The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system (EMS). The paramedic provides patient assessments and advanced cardiac life support and is a key link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

The career pathway for the paramedic AAS starts with the completion of the Emergency Medical Technician program and licenses at the EMT or AEMT level. Students must hold a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) provider certification and meet the criminal background and health requirements for the program.

Students already holding a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic certification (NREMT-P) who wish to complete the Paramedic Technician AAS degree may enroll in the program and are eligible for up to 38 credits for prior learning towards completion of the technical courses of the Paramedic Technician AAS program.

This program's goal is to prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

Once you are accepted into the program and complete the core program courses for the Paramedic Technician degree, you will be eligible to take the National Registry test. You can then finish the rest of your general education classes for the degree.
